Abacus books & Abacus Practice worksheets are integral to Abacus teaching and learning.

Abacus Books

Abacus learning is directly proportional to the quality of Abacus training being imparted. The quality of Abacus Books has a lot to contribute to the benefits of attending the Abacus Classes. These books should be moving progressively from one level to the other.

Abacus Practice Worksheets

The success of Abacus students depends greatly on the amount of practice they do beyond their classroom. The more the students practice, the more is the demand for Abacus Practice worksheets. These need to be available in abundance with uncompromised quality.

Abacus Book For Parents

Abacus training focuses on developing the ability of Mental Math in the students. To solve sums mentally at great speed and accuracy, the students must practice at home. The parents are required to help them in practicing Abacus Math, so a separate Parents Handbook is provided to support the success of the Abacus Training.

Books, Worksheets and Handbook: What Each One Does

Parents often ask why an Abacus course needs so many different materials. Each one has a separate job — the course book teaches the concept in sequence, the worksheets build speed on what is already understood, and the handbook helps you guide practice at home. If you would like a wider picture of how regular practice turns into calculation ability, read our guide on developing mental math skills at home.

Course Books & Abacus Practice Worksheet

Course Books

Mastermind Abacus offers uniquely conceptualized books for teaching the students. These books are structured to provide comprehensive benefits of Abacus to students. The books are incorporated with everyday practice (i.e., for weekly classes) and practice sheets for weekdays to be exercised at home.

The course content is systematic and organized level-wise (for all 10 levels). These systematically organized books ensure it is helpful for teaching and learning Abacus for kids.

The books are structured for children between the ages of 6 to 14 years. To engage students in practice and encourage longer participation, we have also built in games after each session. These games involve the mental arithmetic practice of simple & complex numeric problems and interesting online math games. The students enrolling with Mastermind receive an exclusive Students Kit for learning Abacus.

Unlimited Practice Worksheets

The books help the students practice Abacus effectively both in and out of the classroom. The study material is planned level by level, so the practice a child does at home always matches what was taught in class. Also, it gives convenience to the Abacus teachers as it saves time to structure new questions for practice by themselves.

In addition, the students and Abacus Teachers can download an unlimited number of Abacus practice worksheets from the Abacus Worksheet Generator by Mastermind.

Parents Handbook

A separate handbook for parents is also provided to students to ensure proper guidance and support at home to help them practice. The parents’ can refer to this book and help their children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much worksheet practice does my child really need in a week?

Short and regular works better than long and occasional. About 10 to 15 minutes on most days is enough for a child who is attending classes regularly. If one operation feels slow, add a few extra sheets of only that operation rather than increasing the total number of pages.

Is the course book enough, or do we also need extra worksheets?

The course book carries the teaching sequence and should be followed page by page. Worksheets come after that, for repetition once a concept is understood. A child who picks up a concept quickly may need very few; a child who needs more drilling can download as many as required from the Abacus worksheet generator.

Do parents need to know Abacus to help with home practice?

No. That is exactly why the Parents Handbook exists. It explains the method in plain language, so you can sit beside your child, keep the practice time steady and check answers without having learnt the technique yourself. The teaching remains the teacher’s job.

My child attends online classes. Do we still get the books?

Yes. Students of live online Abacus classes receive the abacus instrument in the student kit, and the course book for each level is provided as a downloadable PDF. Home practice follows the same routine as it does for children attending a centre.

How many levels of books are there in the full course?

There are 10 levels, and each level runs for about three months with two one-hour classes a week. Every level has its own book, and the books move forward in a fixed order. You can see how the levels progress on our Abacus math programme page.

Are the games in the course only for fun, or do they help?

They are practice in a different form. The games use the same addition, subtraction and mixed sums the child has just learnt, so repetition does not feel like repetition. We have written more about this in our post on creative learning tools that go beyond the classroom.

My child finishes worksheets quickly but makes careless mistakes. What should we do?

Ask for accuracy before speed. For a week or two, let your child do fewer sums but check each one before moving on. Speed usually returns on its own once the method is steady, and the teacher can adjust the practice load if the mistakes continue.

My child is 5. Can we begin with these books?

The Abacus programme and its books are designed for children aged 6 to 14. For younger children, we run Lingo Bingo, an offline programme for ages 5 to 6 that builds number readiness and listening skills first. Abacus can follow comfortably after that.
